Ajdan Walk
05Oct

Ajdan Walk is a car-free lifestyle precinct in Al Khobar, on the Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province. It sits beside the Khobar Corniche and combines restaurants, cafés, offices and a cinema in one walkable space. It is a good choice for an easy evening out, a family meal, or a break from meetings.

One point of confusion first. Ajdan Walk is not in Makkah, Madinah or Jeddah. It is in the Eastern Province, more than a thousand kilometres from the holy cities. If you are planning an Umrah trip, this is not on your route. If you are in Khobar for work or leisure, read on.

What is Ajdan Walk?

What is Ajdan Walk?

Ajdan Walk is a mixed-use development in Al Khobar and part of the larger Ajdan Waterfront project. Ajdan Waterfront also includes the Ajdan Rise residential tower, a nine-screen cinema and a five-star hotel. The architects, Benoy, marked its launch in March 2019, and it had already won a gold award at the 2018 Cityscape Awards for Emerging Markets.

The design suits local habits. Benoy blurred the line between indoor and outdoor space so the precinct offers both privacy and places to relax. In practice, you move between shaded walkways, courtyards and restaurant terraces without crossing traffic.

The Saudi tourism authority’s listing describes it in similar terms, as a place for waterfront dining, open-air walkways, cinema experiences and events.

What you can do at Ajdan Walk

What you can do at Ajdan Walk

Eat and drink. Dining is the main draw. The developer says it set out to attract international restaurants and cafés, naming The Cheesecake Factory among them. Restaurant lineups change, so check the current directory or the venues’ own pages before choosing where to eat.

Watch a film. The cinema was planned with Saudi Entertainment Ventures and the global operator AMC. Most visitors know it as AMC Ajdan Walk. Check showtimes and seat types online before you go.

Walk the waterfront. The Khobar Corniche runs close to Ajdan Walk, with a waterfront park and views over the Gulf. A common plan is dinner at Ajdan Walk followed by a stroll along the sea.

Meet or work nearby. The complex is also an office address. It has 11 commercial and office buildings, so weekday lunchtimes are busier with people from nearby offices.

How to get to Ajdan Walk

By car or taxi. Ask the driver for “Ajdan Walk, Al Khobar” and share your pin on your map app. The ground-floor entrance can be reached from the street, the car park or the pedestrian precinct, so drop-off points vary. Agree on one before you arrive.

Parking. The basement car park was designed for about 350 vehicles, which may fill up on weekend evenings. Arriving earlier or using a taxi avoids the search.

By bus. A Saptco bus station is about a nine-minute walk away. Taxis or ride-hailing are simpler for most visitors with luggage or children.

From the airports. Dhahran Airport is about 12.9 km from Ajdan Walk, and Dammam’s King Fahd International Airport is about 57 km away. Bahrain’s airport is also described as within easy reach. Dammam is a long transfer, so confirm the drive time with your driver or hotel at your travel time, because traffic changes it.

Where to stay near Ajdan Walk

The Sofitel Al Khobar The Corniche is within walking distance. Several other corniche hotels are a short drive away. The InterContinental Al Khobar, for example, is listed about 2.5 km from Ajdan Walk. Choose by where your other plans are. A hotel on the corniche suits a leisure stay, while one near the business district suits work trips.

Practical tips

  • Go in the evening. Open-air areas are most comfortable after sunset, especially in summer.
  • Book popular restaurants ahead, particularly on weekends and holidays.
  • Dress modestly and respectfully. Ajdan Walk is a public space, and Saudi norms apply.
  • Plan for prayer times. Some venues adjust service around prayer, so check before a tight schedule.
  • Confirm details yourself. Opening hours, events and tenants change. Check official pages before you travel.

Heading to Makkah or Madinah from the Eastern Province?

Many people who live or work in Khobar and Dammam also plan Umrah or a visit to Madinah. The usual route is a domestic flight from Dhahran or Dammam to Jeddah (JED) or Madinah (MED). From there, a pre-booked transfer keeps the onward trip simple. Al Maqam Transport provides private airport transfers from Jeddah and Madinah to Makkah, Madinah and nearby sites, including Ziyarat. It does not operate in Khobar.
